The World is My Playground and Schoolroom

The most popular question people ask me is “in all your travels around the world, do you have a favorite place or country?” I don’t need time to think about it. The answer is always the same. My favorite is consistently the last place I’ve visited. That could be Nebraska, Namibia, Iceland, Bangkok, France, Milwaukee or Mexico. Or, it could simply be my own backyard of Colorado. Foremost, I am an explorer, driven by a deep sense of wanderlust.

The point is, there’s so much to learn, see and do everywhere on this planet; even in those well-trod favorites closest to you. Take a look at some of the experiences I’ve had the privilege to write about by viewing my Portfolio or clicking on one of the Topics below.

You can pick up a paper sleeve of tasty fried spuds just about anywhere and at any time of day served with a dose of curry ketchup. What to pair with the fries? A Dutch beer of course! Masters of brew making for 1000 years. Or, maybe eating fries is just an excuse to drink beer. And did you know that french fries originated in Holland? That’s another story though… #frenchfries #snack #dutchbeer

While touring Churchill my all-female group listen While touring Churchill my all-female group listened to this beautiful woman tell her story of surviving the Indian Residential School in Manitoba during the 1950s. The cruel system forever changed her but did not break her. Her name is Georgina. She does not remember her Cree name. But, she has found her way back to her heritage and now counsels those who are hurting from the scars of their past. Georgina wears the red dress you see her in with great pride. She dropped out of the residential school at 16 years old. In her later years she went back to get her high school diploma and made this red dress to wear at graduation. She didn’t want to wear a black gown like everybody else. She says, “ I wore this to show I’m a proud indigenous woman!” #womenshistorymonth #strongwomen #indigenouswomen #travelmanitoba #adventuretraveltradeassociation

You may know Churchill, Manitoba as the best place to see polar bears. It’s also one of the best places to see the Northern Lights. After the polar bears have returned to the ice, Churchill transitions as a fascinating winter destination to discover the nightly northern lights performances. And, if you are lucky, they may even dance for you. #northernlights #churchillmanitoba #canada #naturalhabitatadventures
