The World is My Playground and Schoolroom

The most popular question people ask me is “in all your travels around the world, do you have a favorite place or country?” I don’t need time to think about it. The answer is always the same. My favorite is consistently the last place I’ve visited. That could be Nebraska, Namibia, Iceland, Bangkok, France, Milwaukee or Mexico. Or, it could simply be my own backyard of Colorado. Foremost, I am an explorer, driven by a deep sense of wanderlust.

The point is, there’s so much to learn, see and do everywhere on this planet; even in those well-trod favorites closest to you. Take a look at some of the experiences I’ve had the privilege to write about by viewing my Portfolio or clicking on one of the Topics below.

If I had a super power it would be the ability to time travel. I would walk along the mosaic embellished paths of Perge and hitchhike for a chariot ride with a gladiator to the theater to see the most popular sport of the time—wrestling. Me and a few thousand other fans watching hot sweaty men in an arena. Sound familiar? Or, perhaps my chariot driver will take me to the agora to meet with friends fora shopping spree to buy new sandals. #whatagirlwants #satwi̇stanbul #gotürkiye #goturkey

The ancient city of Perge offers some of the best The ancient city of Perge offers some of the best preserved Greek and Roman ruins in Turkey which date from the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD. I’m perched on a Roman fountain that recently started flowing water again thanks to the efforts of archaeologists. The last time water flowed through its channels was 3rd Century AD! The fountain is a marvel of engineering construction and runs the length of a city block. This is just one of the examples of amazing ruins you can see in Perge that includes gymnasium buildings where only men could work out (not fair, I know ladies) with steam rooms and a pool. A theatre, agora, mosaic covered pathways and more. #satwi̇stanbul #goturkiye #goturkey

Last bike ride of the season. The shiny golds of e Last bike ride of the season. The shiny golds of early fall have transitioned to an array of rusty copper penny colors. The LoBo trail from Longmont to Boulder follows a trail near farmland with the mountains providing a perfect backdrop. Once the whole area was farmland and orchards. Now, Boulder County provides a 22-acre plot for local small farmers to lease and grow crops. Further along the trail you can see the Boulder Flatirons peeking above a spent cornfield.

Beautiful sunny day for a late fall bike ride. Ped Beautiful sunny day for a late fall bike ride. Pedaled one of my favorite local trails along the Greenway flanking the St Vrain River as it winds towards Sandstone Ranch. Its origins date back to the turn of the 19th century in the early days of Longmont. Cattle grazed on the grasslands next to the banks of the river while crops of barley, wheat and alfalfa were farmed in the fields. Period era farm equipment is on display by the old barn. The ranch was named after the sandstone cliffs that frame the picturesque pastoral scene. #longmontcolorado
